Theresa Tsui is a creative and social entrepreneur with a background in fashion and marketing. A British Citizen, and mum of three, she has been a UAE-resident since 2004. She is committed to using her passion for creativity in her social entrepreneurship endeavours to upskill, improve and enhance the lives of marginalised people and their communities through sewing.
In 2013 Theresa began her journey. She started reMADE DXB, Dubai’s first sewing studio after identifying a niche in the market for a casual, fun and creative space. Here people could learn to sew, make new friends and even learn how to start a handmade business of their own. Since then, she has collaborated and provided creative, experiential activations for brands such as Sole DXB, Level Shoes, Ted Baker, The Outnet, Ace Hardware and Namshi.
Quickly realising the transformative power of a low tech, high impact craft such as sewing she collaborated with a number of humanitarian organisations. She travelled to refugee communities in Turkey and Kurdistan Iraq to understand how she could use her creative knowledge to help communities in need.
Using her findings Theresa developed an innovative new project and cofounded Skills3 – a Creative Enterprise for Social Impact that designs and delivers sewing programmes to marginalised people and their communities here in the UAE and beyond. She has recently secured and works in partnership to deliver projects for the UNHCR and IoM.
In addition to her passion for delivering social impact, Theresa regularly shares her craft tips and tricks with readers in monthly craft columns, online and in magazines.
